Obituary for Bruce Kay

N. Bruce Kay, 78, passed away on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at his daughter’s home in Durham. He was born in Middlesex Co., MA to the late John Reid Kay and Elizabeth Morey Kay. In adddition to his parents, he was also predeceased by a sister, Janet Kay Powers.

Mr. Kay was a retired Commander in the U.S. Navy having served 24 years as a Surface Warfare Officer (SWO). During his time with the Navy he traveled extensively in service of this country: From his two tours in Vietnam to serving as a Naval Attaché at the Embassy in Rome, Italy, before finally retiring as the Executive Officer at the Duke University NROTC.
After retiring from military service Mr. Kay taught Business Administration for over 15 years at Piedmont Community College in Roxboro, NC.

In his final years, he and his wife continued to travel and explore the world, spending time with family and friends near and far.

Mr. Kay is survived by his wife, Sharon Carol Kay; daughter, Kathy Lynn Kay; son, Stephen Michael Kay; daughter-in law Lee Ann Kay; grandchildren, Mason, Macklin, Katelyn and Kiersten Kay; and sister, Judith Kay Ingraham.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 18th at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Bryan Chestnutt officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Red Cross, 431 18th Street NW, Washington, DC 20006.
