Obituary for Richard "Buck" M. Buchanan

Richard M. Buchanan, 84, died June 13, 2018 at his home in Durham, North Carolina from a long battle with Alzheimer’s and sudden stroke. He was born October 3, 1933 in Quantico, Virginia to Maj. Fitzhugh Lee Buchanan USMC and Eula Burdette Buchanan. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Portsmouth, Virginia and attended Milligan College where he met his wife of 58 years, Sharon Stover. He was in the United States Marine Corps stationed in San Diego from 1954-1958, where he attained the rank of Staff Sargent. He worked as a salesman for Armour & Co and Valleydale Meats and later with Mini-Gallon Oil Company in Virginia. He and his wife moved from Virginia to Indiana in 2005 to assist in caring for Pluma Stover prior to her death in 2011 and thereafter moved to Durham, NC.

He leaves behind a wife Sharon Stover Buchanan, two daughters, Michelle Elaine Buchanan (Danny) Hines and Lisa Dawn Buchanan (David) Holloman, and three grandchildren, Matthew Daniel Hines of NC, Chelsea Holloman (Victor) Zamora and Lauren Elizabeth Holloman. He is predeceased in death by his Father and Mother, Sister Ruth Burdette Wadsworth and brother Lt. Col. Fitzhugh L. Buchanan, Jr. USMC. A quiet ceremony of his life will be held on Saturday, June 30 at Clements Funeral Home, 1105 Broad Street, Durham, NC. with burial later at Arlington National Cemetery with his Father and Brother.
