DURHAM: Paul “Bud” Jones Raisig, Jr., 85, passed away with his son by his side on Wednesday, May 9th, 2018. He was born on June 21, 1932 in Jamestown, New York to Paul Jones Raisig and Marian Elizabeth Christian Raisig.

After graduating high school in Battle Creek, Michigan, Paul enlisted in the United States Army in 1951. Following basic training and Officer Candidate School, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Field Artillery. During his time in uniform he served stateside and overseas assignments including two tours in Vietnam for which he was awarded for gallantry, bravery and leadership in combat. His medals of valor include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star with V device and Purple Heart.

Paul retired from active duty as a Colonel from the Army in 1977 and spent the next 10 years as a Department of Defense consultant and business executive in the Washington D.C. area. In 1986, Mr. and Mrs. Raisig returned to North Carolina where he fulfilled a life-long goal of earning his Juris Doctorate degree. After several years of private practice he returned to his alma mater, Campbell University, as a professor of business law for the next 15 years. Also during these years Paul kept his support of the US Army going strong and was named the Honorary Regimental Colonel of the 319th Airborne Field Artillery at Fort Bragg. Paul and Carolyn spent many years enjoying life and indulging their grandchildren on their beloved Buffalo Lake near Sanford, NC.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Carolyn (née Sides), in 2010. He is survived by his daughters, Dawn Hardwick (Michael) and Anne Ellis (Rick), his son, Chris Raisig (Jennifer), five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
