Obituary for Betty Hawkins Rogers

DURHAM: Betty Hawkins Rogers, 93, died Thursday, January 11, 2018, at her home. She was born in 1924 in New Bern, NC, the daughter of the late Pinkney Hawkins and Bessie Hawkins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Gene Hawkins, Melvin Hawkins Sr. and nephew, Melvin Hawkins, Jr.

Betty lived most of her life in Dania, Florida. She was a retired bank teller and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. She was an animal lover who had a funny and witty personality. Betty was a member of Liberty Freewill Baptist Church and a 1942 graduate of Durham High School.

Betty is survived by nephew, Tommy Hawkins and wife Beverly; nieces, Gina DeMent and husband Rick, Kay Johnson, Linda Paul and husband Staley, Janice McGillard and husband Dick and nephew, David Hawkins and wife Amy.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, January 13, at Maplewood Cemetery with Pastor Eric Burmahl officiating.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to her loving caregivers, Joy Ivey, Pam Schaible and Kathy Petty. They also wish to thank Hock Family Pavilion for their special care that they provided for her.
