Obituary for Stephen Wayne Brackett

CHAPEL HILL: Stephen Wayne Brackett, also known lovingly as “Lovin”, “Dad” and “Uncle Steve”, passed away at the age of 66 on Monday, September 30th, 2019.

He was born in High Point on November 28th, 1952 to father William Wayne Brackett and mother Betsy Brackett Upton.

He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a psychology degree and has been an avid Tarheel fan ever since. He received a certificate in Computer Science from North Carolina State University and an MBA from Duke Fuqua School of Business. He worked in the field of Clinical Research for many years at Glaxo and Quintiles, until he was a founder of Ingenium, which later changed its name to Ockham. Following there, he worked for PPD until he retired four years ago.

Steve was an avid reader and enjoyed filling in the puzzle pieces of his genealogy, Tarheel athletics, woodworking projects, camping, cooking with his wife (family and friends will remember his famous banana pudding), and finally, seeing every Marvel movie in the theater with his son when they came out.

Steve is survived by his wife of 45 years, Judy Stroud Brackett who resides in their home in Chapel Hill, son Will Brackett who resides in Raleigh, his sister Rebecca Brackett Morgan and her husband Rocky Morgan in Pfafftown, NC. He also has many loving nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and nephews. He always loved facetiming with Emory. He will certainly be missed by his dog Abbey, and grand dogs Gus and Hank.

A memorial service will take place Friday, October 4th, 2019 at 1:00pm at Massey’s Chapel United Methodist Church at 7222 Fayetteville Rd, in Durham, where he was a member and former Treasurer as well as chair of the finance committee.

In lieu of flowers, please give to the ASPCA, American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Durham, so his love for animals can continue. The family would like to thank friends and family for the outpouring support of thoughts and prayers.

TO HONOR STEVE AND HIS LOVE FOR THE TARHEELS, PLEASE WEAR YOUR BEST CAROLINA BLUE ON FRIDAY.
