Obituary for Robyn Ann Owzar

Robyn Ann Owzar passed away on September 13, 2018 in hospice care after fighting a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Robyn Ann Miller was born August 25, 1961 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, to Robert and Elaine (Rakoczy) Miller. At the age of five, Robyn’s family moved to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania where she and her younger siblings, Crissy and Eric, grew up in the Chambers Hill community. Robyn loved spending her summers at the family’s lake cottage on Lake Sheridan in northeastern Pennsylvania, and on the beach at Ocean City, Maryland. The swimming pool in the back yard of their home was the site of many good times. Robyn was an exceptional athlete, competing in track and field, softball, soccer, swimming and tennis. After graduating from Central Dauphin East High School in Harrisburg in 1979, Robyn enlisted in the United States Army where she served as a radiology specialist. Two years later, her daughter Desiree was born. They lived in Fort Campbell, Kentucky and Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri where Robyn owned and managed a daycare business.

Robyn moved back with Desiree to Pennsylvania in 1991 to attend nursing school. After graduation, Robyn worked as a registered nurse and later as a director of a hospice unit. While in college, Robyn met the love of her life Kouros Owzar. They married in 1998 and moved to North Carolina the same year. Their daughter Mandana was born in 2004. Robyn, Kouros and Mandana made their home in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Robyn worked as a nurse in a hospice facility and served as a nurse supervisor in an elder care facility. Robyn had a heart for taking care of the elderly and devoted much of her efforts to elder care. More recently, she served as a teaching assistant for children with special needs at Rashkis Elementary in Chapel Hill.

Robyn’s life was defined by her faith. She gave her life to Christ. Robyn participated in several Bible study and prayer groups. She was deeply involved in Special Olympics. Robyn enjoyed creating cosplay costumes for her daughter Mandana and cherished spending time with her two grandchildren, Samuel and Emma.

Robyn was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Elaine Miller. She is survived by her husband Kouros of Chapel Hill; her daughters Desiree Bland of Pinehurst, North Carolina and Mandana of Chapel Hill; her sister Crissy Krull of Sturgis, South Dakota, her brother Eric Miller of Lake Worth, Florida; and her grandchildren Samuel and Emma of Pinehurst, North Carolina. Robyn’s mother in law AJ of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania has been by her side since she fell ill with cancer in 2010.

A memorial service will be held at 1100 am on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham, NC with Pastor Mac Bare officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A reception will follow immediately after the conclusion of the service.

The family wishes to thank the medical staff of Duke HomeCare and Hospice for the loving and compassionate care they provided for Robyn.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Special Olympics of Orange County, 200 Plant Rd, Chapel Hill, NC 27514.
