Obituary for Cheryl "Cheri" Sue Miller

Rougemont: Cheryl “Cheri” Sue Miller, age 71, died Sunday, March 24, 2019, at her home. She was born in Kern, CA, the daughter of the late Roland Miller and Elizabeth Marguerite Miller. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Randy Miller.

Cheri is survived by sister, Judy Halnon of Broomfield, CO; nieces, Cynthia Fowler and husband Joseph, Valerie Rome Fribance and husband Mackenzie, sister-in-law, Anne Miller; special friends, Chris Rasmussen, Edgar Johnson, Donna Hobson; nephew, Drew Miller (Lauren); niece Claire Miller; grand-niece, Ophelia Miller; and her beloved canines, Dante and Nana.

Cheri grew up in Rochester, MN. During her high school years she broke, rode and owned a number of horses. She received a Bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University and a Master’s degree from the University of California at Berkeley. During her college years she spent a year in Munich, Germany.

From California she moved to Houston where she began work in Technology. She was prominent in the H.O.T. Dog Club (Houston Obedience Training). After moving to Raleigh, NC, she worked at Cisco Systems for many years. Eventually she moved north of Durham to enjoy living on her beautiful tree farm in Rougemont. She joined the board of Little River Community Complex, an entity designed to create and oversee a balance between human development and the area’s natural resources.

By that time she had begun to realize her dream of breeding and training German Shepherds as well as competing in the German sport of Schutzhund. Cheri was a very accomplished trainer and competitor, and even competed at regional and national levels. That passion led her to buy the aforementioned property outside Durham and provide a Schutzhund training and competition field for others. Many Schutzhund enthusiasts on the East Coast trialed their dogs on her property over the years, and all were impressed by its gorgeous location and gracious hostess.

The family is in the process of deciding on a time and location for a memorial service and will inform friends when that decision is reached.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to the Little River Community Complex or the Raleigh Schutzhund Association in Cheri’s memory.

The family is being assisted by Clements Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc. in Durham. Online condolences may be sent to www.clementsfuneralservice.com.
