Obituary for Bobby Day Watson

Swansboro- Bobby Day Watson, Sr., 66, passed away at his home at his racetrack on Thursday, October 11, 2018. He was born September 24, 1952 in Durham County, NC. He is the son of the late, Billy Odell Watson and Polly Day Watson.

A victory celebration for Bobby will be held Saturday October 20, 2018 at 11:30 AM at the Carteret County Speedway with his dear friend Reverend Freddie Braswell officiating. The burial will be Sunday, October 21, 2018 at 1:00 PM at the Day Family cemetery in Timberlake, NC. The family will host a celebration of Bobby’s life following the graveside services at the home of his sister in Rougemont in addition to the Victory Lap Celebration held at the Speedway for all of his family and friends.

Bobby owned and operated the Watson Land Clearing and the Carteret County Speedway. Bobby was proud to promote his Speedway through his vision of creating the World’s Best Short-Track for racing in the country. Bobby was also recognized by the U.S. Military and his community for always having a giving spirit and promoting events for the military, families, and gifts for children who visited his racetrack. He was an inspiration to all of his family and friends for his extremely hard work ethic plus his FUN attitude-Faithful, Unstoppable, Never Give Up-fighting for victory at his beloved Speedway when his triumph was called by the Arch Angel Michael who came to take him home to his heavenly Father.

He is survived by two sons, Bobby Day Watson, Jr. of Lenior and his fiancé Tammy Chappell and Cam Watson and his wife Sharron of Peletier; grandchildren, Carter Day Watson and Frankie Mae Watson; brothers, Ronnie Watson of Emerald Isle and Larry Watson and his wife Cheryl of Peletier; sister, Sandra Wrightenberry and her husband Jerry of Rougemont; his longtime girlfriend and companion, Scarlett G. Scott of Kinston, NC; and many nieces and nephews, all who had a special relationship with their Uncle Bobby.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the White Oak Ecumenical Outreach Ministries: 730 West Corbitt Ave., Swansboro, NC 28584.
