Obituary for Anne Williams Kern Carpenter

Anne Kern Carpenter—much loved and respected business woman, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to many, passed away after a long battle with Parkinson’s and Dementia.

Our vivacious Anne was successful in many business ventures and hobbies. She owned a Snelling and Snelling employment agency in the 1960’s, sold stocks and bonds, was a much-beloved manager at Liggett-Myers Tobacco Company, and then started her illustrious career in Real Estate. She helped many people who would otherwise not be able to own their own homes. She received an award for her lifetime in going above and beyond what was necessary in each business, but was given this unique award by her real estate peers. At the ceremony, hearing the description of the awardee, she was looking around to see who the celebrated person was. When they announced the name, her table mates had to tell her it was HER! She was still looking trying to figure out who it could be. That was Our Anne.

She was the first female president of the Durham Chamber of Commerce, was an honorary life member of the Durham Chamber of Commerce, and was awarded and recognized as Outstanding Leadership as Charter President by the Tobaccoland Civitan Club in Durham, North Carolina in 1977. Anne received dozens of listing and selling real estate awards over the years.

Anne was very active in her church and was a deacon for many years, and also served as head deacon.

Anne enjoyed teaching dance as a hobby in the evenings in the 1970’s where her outgoing personality glowed. In college at WC in Greensboro, she played ping pong, tennis, bowled, and enjoyed singing.

She loved her family and traveled between Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, and Mississippi to keep her loved ones close.

We love you and already miss you, Anne.
