Obituary for Telphor "Ted" Lawrence, III

DURHAM: Telphor "Ted" Lawrence, III, 83, died Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at Duke University Hospital. He was born in Durham, the son of the late Telphor Hinton Lawrence, Jr. and Frances Long Lawrence.

Ted attended Durham County Schools and was a graduate of Braggtown High School. He was a truck driver with McLean Trucking Company for 30 years until his retirement. Ted was a member of Duke Memorial Methodist Church and a member of the Elks Club. He was an expert on Durham history and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with family and friends.

Ted is survived by his wife of 46 years, Johnnie Lawrence; children, Telphor “Terry” H. Lawrence IV (Kathleen) of Greensboro, Candace Lawrence Buchanan (Bill) of Wake Forest; sister, Frances Anne Lawrence Viverette (Cecil) of Hilton Head, S.C.; grandchildren, Stephen Lawrence, Nick Lawrence (Rachel), Ben Lawrence, Kristie Pfendler (Chase), Catherine Buchanan; and great-grandson, Emerson Lawrence.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, July 13th, at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham with Rev. Dick Purnell officiating. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
