Obituary for Stacy A. Riddle

Stacy Allen Riddle passed peacefully at Hock Family Pavilion in Durham, NC on Thursday, May 3rd, 2018 at the age of 90. He was surrounded by his wife of almost 67 years, his two daughters and his granddaughter.
A Remembrance Service will begin at 3pm on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Gorman Baptist Church Sanctuary in Durham, N.C. Reverend Craig Phelps will officiate the ceremony, with family and friends sharing thoughts. Everyone is welcome to attend and celebrate Stacy’s life at a Reception in the Family Life Center, following the service.
Stacy is survived by his wife, Barbara Cox Riddle of Durham; son, Jon Riddle (Rhonda) of Greensboro, and daughters; Cynthia (James) Wrenn of Greensboro and Elizabeth (Ramzi) Richani of Durham. Stacy’s brother, Cecil Riddle is his only surviving sibling and resides in Charlotte, NC. Stacy has two grandsons; Jay Wrenn & Alexander Richani and six granddaughters, Allyn Short, Lauren Orr, Mica Weibe, Laken Riddle, Stacey Richani and Layla Richani. He has 9 great grandchildren; Josiah & Jaedyn Wrenn, Emily, Samuel & Katie Orr, Arrington & Ashland Short and Cole & Annika Weibe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex Ervin (1899-1974) and Nora Elizabeth (1905-1984) and five of his siblings; Bruce Ervin Riddle (1925-1976), Joyce Riddle Martin (1943-1994), Clyde Ross Riddle (1931-2000), Thomas Franklin Riddle (1933-2005), William Louis Riddle (1926-2005).
Stacy was born on November 6, 1927, in Coats, North Carolina to Alex Erwin & Nora Elizabeth Riddle. He married Barbara Jacqueline Cox on June 23, 1951. Together they welcomed three children of their own and fostered 19 infants from The Children’s Home Society.
Stacy began working for A&P Tea Company in 1947 and worked there until his retirement in 1989. In 1984, Stacy and Barbara moved to the Family Homestead in Gorman, where he enjoyed tilling the soil that his father farmed in years past, sitting on the back porch having iced tea and entertaining friends, and always enjoyed playing cards.
Stacy was a witty, dedicated, hardworking man who loved God, his family, friends and community. He was an active and dedicated member of Gorman Baptist Church and volunteered his talents at cooking for the Senior Citizens on a weekly basis for 19 years. Stacy was a deacon, choir member and active in the Thornton-Dowd Sunday School Class.
