Obituary for Nancy Totten Sorrell

DURHAM: Nancy Totten Sorrell, 79, died Saturday, September 23, 2017, at Hock Family Pavilion. Born in Durham, the daughter of the late Walter LaVaille Totten and Callie Lucille Tilley Totten. She was preceded in death by her brothers, LaVaille and William Totten. She was a lifelong resident of Durham and a 1956 graduate of Northern High School. Mrs. Sorrell was a former secretary at Duke University and a clerk with Hills Pharmacy for many years. She was a born again Christian, attending Pleasant Green United Methodist Church as a child and later The Gospel Center and Grove Park Chapel. She was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother and thoughtful person.

Mrs. Sorrell is survived by her husband of 61 years, Bertice Sorrell; daughter, Debra Gay Sorrell of Longs, SC; son, Timothy Russell Sorrell (Wendy Jo) of Wilmington; brother, Phillip Totten of Durham; sister, Sibyl Clayton of Durham; grandchildren, Timothy Jr., Daniel, Kellie, and Christopher Sorrell.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm, Wednesday, September 27, at Clements Funeral Home in Durham. A graveside service will be held 2 pm, Thursday, September 28, at Maplewood Cemetery, with Rev. Dale Brooks officiating. Pallbearers will be Phillip Totten, Daniel Sorrell, Billy Totten, Rusty Mincey, Randy Vaughan and Tim Sorrell.
