Obituary for Mildred B. Parker

DURHAM: Mildred Brown Parker, 91, passed away on Sunday, June 4th. Mildred was a life-long resident of the Mount Moriah community and, at the time of her death, was the oldest living member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church. She was predeceased in death by her parents, George and Frances Harward Brown; her husband, Charlie Raymond Parker; and her son, Charles Parker.

Mildred was known for her gift of writing especially when it came to history. She served for many years as the historian at her beloved church which now leaves countless others with an irreplaceable gift. Mildred had a love of nature particularly when it came to one of God’s smallest creations, the hummingbird. All who knew her, knew that she was the go-to prayer warrior and she always reminded us that we might not receive the answer that we desired but that the plan of God was perfect and that we would understand one day.

Mildred is survived by her son, Reece Parker (Sandy); her daughters, Bronda Walker (Marvin), Dr. Robin Tutor-Marcom (CB), Trudy Thornton; and her daughter-in-law, Kay Parker. She was also the proud grandmother of 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to these, Mildred is also survived by 3 step-grandchildren and 2 step-great-grandchildren to whom she opened her heart and loved as her own.
The family is grateful for Mildred’s caregivers, Delois Spellman and April Braswell. They helped her pass the days while providing unwavering care and love. Delois and April came to us as caregivers and will remain treasured friends.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, June 8th at 3:00 pm at the Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery which is located between Fordham Blvd., (US 15-501 Business) and Legion Road west of Scarlett Drive. Flowers are welcomed; however, monetary gifts may be sent in Mildred’s memory and honor to: Clay Pot Ministries, Inc., PO Box 9687, Chapel Hill, NC 27515-9687. Mildred’s final care has been entrusted to Clements Funeral Home in Durham.
