Obituary for Mary Athalean Johnson Jones

Hillsborough: Mary Athalean Johnson Jones, 90, died Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at Hock Family Pavilion. She was born in Chatham Co, the daughter of the late William Jesse Johnson and the late Mary Belle Johnson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Edward Jones and son, Edward Michael Jones. Mrs. Jones was a resident of Orange County most of her life; she was a graduate of Hillsboro High School and a member of Fairview Baptist Church where she enjoyed many years of teaching preschoolers. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family.

Mrs. Jones is survived by her daughter, Joanne Jones of Hillsborough; son, Gerald W. Jones of Hillsborough; brother, Walter Goodwin Johnson of Arlington, VA; and granddaughter, Holly Christine Jones of Graham.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, March 18th at Fairview Baptist Church in Hillsborough with Rev. Hoyt Shuford officiating. Burial will follow in Hillsborough Town Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, March 17th at Clements Funeral Home in Hillsborough.

Flowers are acceptable or memorial donations can be made to Fairview Baptist Church Building Fund, 600 Cornelius St, Hillsborough, NC 27278.

The family would like to thank the staff of Duke Regional Hospital, and Hock Family Pavilion for the special care given. A special thank you to Dr. Linfors and staff for their many years of medical care.
