Obituary for Joe C. Veasey

Durham: Joe C. Veasey, 88, died Sunday, October 1, 2017, at Duke Regional Hospital. He was born in Granville Co, the son of the late Walter Josephus Veazey and the late Nita Dare Clark Veazey. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Wortham Wiggins Veasey; sister, Ann Dare Bickel and brother, Leamon Veazey. He was a veteran of the Army and Navy Reserves. He retired from Sears. Mr. Veasey was an avid crappie fisherman. He loved traveling with Mary all over the US as well as Alaska and Canada

Mr. Veasey is survived by his step-sons, Joseph Wiggins Thompson (Pamela), James Edward Thompson (Jane); brother, Robert "Bobby" Veasey (Merle); nephews, Randy Bickel, Greg Bickel, Ken Veasey; nieces, Susan Veazey, Becky Veazey, Penny Mayes and grandchildren, Morgan, Michael, Cherylann, Jimmy and Kristen.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, October 7, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church with The Rev. Helen Svoboda-Barber officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association Eastern North Carolina, 3739 National Drive, Suite 110, Raleigh, NC 27612.
