MEBANE: James Major Turner, 73, died Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at WakeMed Raleigh Campus. He was born in Cerro Gordo, IA, the son of the late William Franklin Turner and the late Dorothy Ellen Hein Turner. Before joining the military, Mr. Turner had a short career as a major league pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds before suffering an injury to his shoulder. After retirement from the Air Force, he retired from Durham Exchange Club Industries after 20 years of service. Jim enjoyed spending time with family and friends and took great pride in making sure each and everyone of them knew how great his love was for them. He was also a man of strength and always had a smile on his face.
Mr. Turner is survived by his wife, Carolyn Turner; son, Shawn Turner; daughter, Alisa Dellinger and husband Richard; step-daughters, April Green and husband Brian, Cristina Carroll and husband Jeremy; grandchildren, Ashley Turner, Noah Green, Lindsey Green, Lela Carroll, Rhys Dellinger, Jaxon Carroll and great grandchildren, Brook-lyn, Aubrey and Joseph.
A visitation will be held Saturday April 1st from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Clements Funeral Service in Durham.
