Obituary for Jack "Buddy" Carlton Carpenter

DURHAM: Jack Carlton "Buddy" Carpenter, 79, was called home Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at Duke University Hospital. He was originally from Kannapolis, the son of the late J.W. Carpenter and Lillian Kathleen Clontz Carpenter. Buddy was preceded in death by his sister, Peggy Sadlak; and granddaughter, “Angel” Ella Carpenter.

He attended Western Carolina University. Buddy started his career in Durham at Burlington Industries and remained with the company through numerous transitions until his retirement with Westpoint Stevens in Burlington. Since 1974 he has been an integral part of Holt Athletic Association serving as coach, mentor, and former president. Until the time of his death, he served on the Board of Directors and the Board of Trustees. Buddy was an avid Duke fan. He also enjoyed the beach, fishing and their dog, Gracie. Buddy tremendously enjoyed his mornings with the coffee gang at “the little store”. He would keep you entertained with his “tall tales” of days gone by.

Buddy is survived by his wife, Lynda Morris Carpenter; daughter, Jennifer Carpenter Green (Jack); son, Jack Carlton Carpenter II (Deborah); grandangels, Brooke Ashlyn Green, Jaclyn Page Carpenter, Brittany Green Pritchett (Matt); sisters, Jo Frances Carpenter and Carolyn White (Wayne); and numerous nieces and nephews. Buddy was a loving husband, dad, Papa, brother and friend, and he will be dearly missed by all. He will forever be in our hearts.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 26 at Ridgecrest Baptist Church with Rev. Don Chasteen officiating. A graveside service will be held 3 p.m., Saturday at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, May 25 at Clements Funeral Home in Durham.
