Obituary for Helen Kathryn Parrish

DURHAM – Helen Kathryn Parrish, 99, born December 27, 1917 in Petersburg, Va., died on August 3, 2017 at her home. She was the daughter of the late John and Zelma Crowder Howard. She was the wife of the late William Gaither Parrish. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by daughters, Andrea C. Hunt, Sylvia K. Brewer; and son, Ronald L. Hunt along with four sisters and one brother.

Mrs. Parrish was retired from Liggett-Myers Tobacco Factory. She enjoyed being a homemaker; cooking, sewing, decorating cakes, growing flowers and many other crafts.

Mrs. Parrish is survived by her son, Kenneth L. Hunt and wife, Beverly; along with grandchildren, David Hunt, Lisa Selfe, Ellen Harward, and Patricia Brewer; several great-grandchildren; and special cousins, Ralph and Dianne Ramsey.

A graveside service will be held at 2pm on Monday, August 7 at Maplewood Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 to 1:30pm at Clements Funeral Home in Durham.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to her loving caregivers, Laurel, Carol, Joan, Ingrid and to Duke HomeCare and Hospice.
