Obituary for Esther Magdaline Phillips West

DURHAM: Esther Magdaline Phillips West, 92, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at her home in Durham.

Magdaline was a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority and held many offices in the International Organization for Leaders. She was a volunteer with the Duke Cancer Patient Support Program.

Magdaline was a devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church and served alongside her husband, the late Rev. James E. West. She was active in the choir, youth groups, mission organizations, and served as a Sunday School Teacher for many years. As a pastor’s wife, she led choirs, enjoyed playing the piano and working with the rest home ministries.

Magdaline enjoyed entertaining family and friends, working in the yard and flowers. Everyone was touched by her gift for baking and cooking. Cooking was Magdaline’s way of showing her love and ministering to others. She was a wonderful mother, and inspiring teacher, and a loving, caring and helpful pastor’s wife.
