DURHAM: Ronald G. Witt, 84, passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Croasdaile Village Retirement Community. He was born in Wayne Co., MI to the late Elmer and Iris Palmer Witt. His B.A. is from the University of Michigan and his PhD from Harvard University. He came to Duke University in 1971 where he was Distinguished Professor of medieval and Renaissance history until his retirement in 2004. He and his family lived in Hillsborough from 1973-1986.
Dr. Witt is survived by wife, Mary Ann Frese Witt; son, Eric Frese Witt (Charlene Challers); daughters, Martha Iris Witt (Remo Santalucia), Daria Celeste Witt (Douglas McCurry); sister, Dr. Gladys Witt Strain (Dr. James); and grandchildren, Giovanni Witt Santalucia, Iris Nicole Witt Santalucia, Jack Witt McCurry, Matthew Witt McCurry.
A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 25th at Hillsborough Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please send a donation to one of the following: the Hillsborough Presbyterian Church, Duke Hospice, Doctors Without Borders, the Duke University Library, WCPE.
