Obituary for Dorothy Faucette Parker

Durham: Dorothy Faucette Parker (87), more affectionately known as “Tee”, “Miss Dot” & “Granny Tee” to her grandchildren and younger family & friends. She transitioned peacefully on Monday, April 9, 2018. She was born & raised in Durham, NC and was the daughter of the late Jessie Lucile Wright, Clarence Faucette, Sr. & Stepfather Frank Wright. She was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Henry Melvin Parker and brother, Clarence Faucette, Jr.

Dorothy was a graduate of the Hillside High School Class of 1947 and really enjoyed attending & helping organize the reunions. She also attended Savannah State College and North Carolina Central University where she was a proud member of the Ivy Leaf Club.

After college, Dorothy started her career as an Administrative Assistant at North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company & Lincoln Hospital. She later enjoyed working in Retail Sales at Dillards Department Store at the former South Square Mall. She could always help anyone put an outfit together with her natural gift of fashion. Most recently she was actively involved with Organizing for America, Inc.

In her retirement years, Dorothy enjoyed playing scrabble, writing poetry, studying her Bible and spending time with family & friends. She had a vivacious personality, loved wearing bright colors, (usually with a cap or hat on her head), and brought a whole lot of fun and joy to those around her. Because of this, she and was known as the “Senior Teenager” throughout her golden years. Dorothy even won the Senior Competition for the Title of “Ms Golden Age” during her stay in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. Before her health declined, and while a resident at Emerson Woods Apartment for Seniors, she enjoyed getting around on her motorized scooter so much that her friends nicknamed her “Scooter Momma”.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Sandra Vaughns Miller of Savannah, GA, Beverly Vaughns Pone (Ed) of Fayetteville, NC, Derek Morris Parker of Durham, NC, and Kerry Mia Parker of Washington, DC; one sister, Ernestine Faucette Bertrand; grandchildren, Michelle Lewis, Deidre Miller, Kristen Dukes (Marquise), Jared Pone (Charnel) and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her two very special friends, like daughters of her own, Shelia Branch and Traci Sanford.
