Obituary for Charlie David Brame, Jr.

DURHAM- Charlie David Brame, Jr., 84, passed away Sunday, February 5, 2017 at Hillcrest Convalescent Center. He was born October 13, 1932 and was the adopted son of the late Charlie David Brame, Sr. and Selena Alice Lawson Brame. He was also preceded in death by his birth mother, Vertie Ralph Sanders and birth father, Fay Edwin Garrett; and a sister, Betty Lanier.

Mr. Brame was retired from The American Tobacco Co. after 37 years. He was a faithful member of Durham Memorial Baptist Church (DMBC) where he served in many capacities. He loved to visit the sick and the elderly. He was a Boy Scout Leader of Troop 490, and was also a US Army veteran. He stayed in contact with many of the former veterans after his active discharge in 1955. He was a member of the Duke Homestead Museum Board. He graduated from Oak Grove High School in 1950. He remained good friends with his classmates through the years. Cecil Vaughan, an Oak Grove classmate, has been his best friend since childhood. They often enjoyed playing golf together along with other OG classmates. David loved collecting cigarette memorabilia and had a huge collection. He made many friends all over the world through this hobby.

In 1993, David discovered he had two sisters, Betty and Ann from his birth family. He enjoyed getting to know them and spending time with their families.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia “Patty” Jarrett Brame; daughters, Loretta Brown (Billy), Robin Hollen (Wayne); son, Kelly David Brame (Angie); step-daughters, Susan Addison (Gary), Kimberly Teunis (John); step-son, Kent Terrell (JoAnne); sister, Ann Smith; brother-in-law Charles Lanier; sister-in-law, Patricia Pate; grandchildren, Michael Appel (Stephanie), Heather Padgett (Will), David Brown (Jessie), Laura Moore (Andrew), Rebecca Kirkman (Scott), Andrew Hollen (Jamie), Ethan Brame, Helen Brame; 7 step-grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He also has two special cousins that have been faithful in visiting him, Gerald Lawson and Baron Adams.

The family will receive friends at Clements Funeral Home in Durham from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, Feb. 6, 2017. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, Feb.7th at DMBC with Rev. Ed Denton and Dr. Gerald Goodwin officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will also receive friends prior to the service from 10:15 to 10:45 Tuesday morning at the church.
