Obituary for Betty H. Yandle

DURHAM: Ms. Betty H. Yandle, born to the late Arthur L. and Bertha K. Huckabee, formerly of Charlotte, NC, went home to be with the Lord on November 5, 2017. She graduated from Thomasboro High School in Charlotte in 1946, and was married to Howard A. Yandle, also of Charlotte, in December of 1947. They relocated to the Durham/Chapel Hill area where he was enrolled in the UNC School of Pharmacy. He graduated in 1951 and they remained in the Durham/Chapel Hill area where he served most of his professional years as an independent pharmacist. In the meantime, while raising two sons, Ms. Yandle went to work for the State Board of Pharmacy where she performed data processing and record keeping duties for 25 years before retiring in 1993. She was duly respected in those circles as the one who lead the way for the Pharmacy Board to enter the “computer age” as she took it upon herself to learn it from the ground-up.

Ms. Yandle was a devout Christian, as was her husband, and they, along with their two sons, Steven and David, were charter members of the Fellowship Baptist Church (SBC) in Durham which was organized in 1959 and later changed its name to Cresset Baptist Church.

In addition to her work, Ms. Yandle was a wonderful Mother, Homemaker, Sunday School Teacher, and eventually a Grandma (affectionately known to her family as “Ma-Ma” or “Aunt Bet” to her nieces and nephews, and their children.) She had been an active member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Durham for the past 26 years. She dearly loved the Lord, and knew Him as her personal Savior. Because of this, there is absolutely no doubt in our minds where she is today. We know that her life, and testimony of her faith will remain an inspiration to many who knew her, for years to come.

Ms. Yandle was predeceased by her husband, Howard, in March of 2006, two sons, Michael (lived only 24 hours), and David, who died in May of 1993, and one brother, Arthur (Dee) Huckabee. She is survived by one son, Steven Yandle and wife, Karen; two beloved grandsons, Kevin Yandle (wife, April); and Joseph Yandle; 1 brother, James Huckabee, 1 Sister, Francis Cassidy, 5 nieces, 3 nephews, and numerous great nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors Thursday evening, November 9, 2017 at Clements from 6-8pm. A service celebrating her life will be held Friday, November 10, 2017 at 11:00am at Ridgecrest Baptist Church located at 1104 Milton Road, Durham, NC 27712. Interment will be at Maplewood Cemetery in Durham following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family at her request, would recommend donations to any of the following: Durham Rescue Mission; Samaritan’s Purse; Ridgecrest Baptist Church, or Duke Hospice Care.

The family is being assisted by Clements Funeral Service, Inc. in Durham. Online condolences may be made at www.clementsfuneralservice.com.
